Review - Here Lies Bridget by Paige Harbison

*Review copy courtesy of Harlequin Teen

Summary courtesy of GoodReads:

Heroine, Bridget Duke, rules her high school, but when she crashes her car and ends up in limbo, she must confront the people she has wronged, all of whom want her to go to hell. The outcome of these meetings will decide her final destination.

Sounds awful reminiscent of Lauren Oliver's BEFORE I FALL, huh?  Well, it is.  But not necessarily in a bad way.  Bridget Duke is the popular girl, the one everyone loves.  Or do they just love her because they're terrified of her?  Bridget gets uber pissed one day and decided to go for a ride in her car.  Next minute, she's in limbo with the strange new girl making her relive bits and pieces of the last few years.  Bridget gets a glimpse into the lives of the ones she's tormented and gets the chance to make things right.  Can she save her own life in time?

Flat out, Bridget is a bitch.  I was appalled by the way she treated her stepmother, and her so called best friend.  When she went back to fix things, I was secretly hoping the she'd not do it right and end up dead.  The book felt a little rushed once she started redeeming her actions, as all of it happened in maybe 30-50 pages total.  The charactes also fell a little flat for me.  I would have liked to see more of Liam and more of some later interactions with the other people Bridget "fixed" things with.  All in all, not a bad story, not the most original but enjoyable.  This is the author's debut novel, and she's only 21!  I believe this book is still available for request through NetGalley.

3 out of 5 stars
