Review - The Iron Daughter by Julie Kagawa

Series:  The Iron Fey #2
Published:  August 1, 2010 by  Harlequin Teen
Pages:  359
Edition:  Paperback

Summary:

Half Summer faery princess, half human, Meghan has never fit in anywhere. Deserted by the Winter prince she thought loved her, she is prisoner to the Winter faery queen. As war looms between Summer and Winter, Meghan knows that the real danger comes from the Iron fey—ironbound faeries that only she and her absent prince have seen. But no one believes her.
Worse, Meghan's own fey powers have been cut off. She's stuck in Faery with only her wits for help. Trusting anyone would be foolish. Trusting a seeming traitor could be deadly. But even as she grows a backbone of iron, Meghan can't help but hear the whispers of longing in her all-too-human heart.

Review:

I honestly just can't get enought of the world and characters Julie Kagawa has created.  I picked this book up about 1 week after I startd the first, and read it in one sitting.  If you want to start a new series this summer, this is it.

Plot:  Meghan is back in the Nevernever after keeping her end of the bargain with Ash.  She is stuck in Queen Mab's Winter court and Ash has practically turned his back on her.  And suddenly she has a new (but familiar) enemy....
Could Julie Kagawa have made a better 2nd book to this series?  I think not!  The plot was fantastic, whimsical, frustrating, suspensful, and romantic.  Plus, we dive further into the world of the Nevernever and the Iron Fey.

Characters:  Alot of people seem to think Meghan is annoying.  I didn't really think so until this book.  She crys over Ash an awful lot (although I probably would too, SWOON) and is quite depressing at times.  So, I totally see where everyone is coming from on this.  Hopefully, she grow up a little more in the next book.  Puck, oh Puck.  He really comes out of his shell in this book.  You really get to see and feel his love for Meghan, as a best friend and something more.  I love how Julie can make his character so loving and so snarky and sarcastic at the same time.  And of course we come to Prince Ash.  Oh, how I am Team Ash.  At the beginning of the book he made me so mad, what with his cold attitude towards Meghan, but you soon realize why he is acting like that.  About 2/3 of the way through the book though, Ash will melt your heart.  There were some moments where I literally became a pile of goo on the floor.  Oh, and Ironhorse.  I just love him and I think a cried a little at the end of , well, YOU KNOW....And finally Ash's brothers.  They were some of my favorite characters through the book.  I really hope they get elaborated on more in the last 2 books.

5 out of 5 stars
