Review - Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma

**Review Copy provided by publisher**

Summary:

Sixteen-year-old Maya and seventeen-year-old Lochan have never had the chance to be 'normal' teenagers. Having pulled together for years to take care of their younger siblings while their wayward, drunken mother leaves them to fend alone, they have become much more than brother and sister. And now, they have fallen in love. But this is a love that can never be allowed, a love that will have devastating consequences ...

How can something so wrong feel so right?

Review:

First off, I give major props for any author to go as far as this into any taboo subject.  As you can tell from the above summary, this story is about incest.  I know, it's not exactly a NEW subject, as V.C. Andrews'  Flowers in the Attic is a prolific novel involving incest.  But Tabitha Suzuma takes the incest 20 steps further in this novel.  As many bloggers before me, I knew exactly what I was getting into, I knew it was pretty graphic with the incest, and I still just had to get my hot little hands on this one.
This story is digusting, raw, gritty, romantic, and heartbreaking all rolled up in one book burrito.  The anguish and heartbreak you feel for Maya and Lochan is unreal.  I found myself saying "What the hell is wrong with me?!?  They are BROTHER AND SISTER!  But yet I still want them to have their HEA."  This book really makes you question what's wrong and what's right.  I don't think it sways anyone into believing incest is RIGHT, but when you are reading it, it sure as shit makes you wonder.  And fair warning, this book DOES NOT have a happy ending, which I don't think is a spoiler because I can almost guarantee everyone intreseted in reading this book can just automatically assume that.  And speaking of the ending, I didn't see it coming.  At least not in that way.  I knew it wasn't going to be a "good" ending, but I didn't expect the author to take it that far.  Then again, I didn't think the author would take the incest thing that far.  I don't think I've cried that many tear scombined over all my books, as I did in the last 20 pages of Forbidden.  A must read.

10 out of 5 stars (NOT A TYPO!)

  1. I finished this book 2 days ago, and still can't wrap my head around it well enough to get everything I want to say about this book on paper. By far the best book (if you can call it a BEST book) I have ever read. Ohmygod.
