Review: 

 

I believe this one picks up about 3 weeks after the last book ended.  I'll start off by telling you guys that I didn't like this one as much as the last.  We didn't have near as much sexual tension between Rush and Blaire this time, obviously.  But still, Abbi sure as hell knows how to write some steamy scenes!  I won't say much in this review as not to spoil the happenings of the previous book, but I do want to state something that bothered me with this book that I have been seeing a lot in NA books lately.  I won't say exactly what it is, but if you have read this book, you will know what I am alluding to.  At the beginning of the book, Blaire finds something out.  I was actually quite disappointed that the story took this turn, although I saw it coming with the sex scenes in the last book.  It seems quite a few NA books have taken this turn with the main woman and I actually wish it wasn't so prominent.  I mean, I know technically these characters are adults and NA books are all about finding yourself through life and relationships and what not, but I see it TOO often.  Kind of like love triangles in YA books.  It started off in just a couple off books, but now seems to be in all the books.  Okay, rant over.

 

Characters.  Everyone is pretty much the same.  Rush is still kind of an ass.  Although now he's a groveling ass.  And I still love him.  Nan's still a bitch, although her venom seems to be starting to run thin.  Grant is loveable.  Woods is kind of loveable, but to me he just seems older than he is.  I can't help but picture a mid-30ish person for him instead of a young-mid 20ish guy.  Great follow-up to the last book and definitely a must read if you've read the first!

Review: 

 

This one I going to be short and sweet, because quite frankly, I freaking loved this book.  The only thing about it was Nan's "big secret."  It was a let down.  I expected more along the lines of a jaw-dropping reveal.  Other than that, it was damn good and addicting.  Rush was hotness in a bottle.  Not to mention his name is Rush.  Mmmmm.  I loved how he could be the tattooed and pierced asshole, but yet he could throw on a polo and be country club douche.  Now, I don't like country club douches but I think it was pretty cool how he could play both.  Like a chameleon.  And Blaire.  She was perfect for Rush!  A little too needy and pushover-y for me, but she complemented Rush nicely.  I never really truly disliked her.  That brings us to the supporting characters.  Nan....oh Nanette.  Such a bitch!  Glines nailed her personality.  She's the character you love to hate.  Kind of like Georgina in Gossip Girl (show, not book).  Let's not forget Grant.  Who doesn't love him?  He can still be best friend and brother to Rush, and yet can still put him in his place about being an asshat.  Read this book!  I'm giving it 5 stars, and those of you who know me know that I don't give those coveted 5 stars out easily!  Fantastic-ness!

I would just like to state that this was my first novel that introduced me to the "New Adult" genre.  Wait, I know, it's not REALLY New Adult.  But it is steamier than what could be classified as YA.  I read this over 6 months ago, so you'll have to forgive me if my memory is not as fresh as it could be.  Onward with the review!

 

I'm a sucker for love triangles.  Yes, everyone seems to hate them and yes, they are so overdone and cliched.  And yet I find myself drawn to them.  I can't help it.  Guilty as charged.  That being said, I thought this book was great.  The characters were developed well, and the author nailed life and temperment in the South.  Being as I live near the Alabama/Florida border, I know it like the back of my hand.  Sawyer-the Southern gentleman, who will do anything for his girl, including letting her find her way.  Sawyer never tried to hold Ashton back.  He loved her but didn't want to make her decisions for her and never held it against her and I liked his character quite a bit for that.  Beau-

a Southern bad boy in all the right ways.  Again, a Southern gentleman, but in a bad boy way.  He's been in love with Ashton his whole life, but never expressed his feelings for her for her own good.  Ashton-good girl extraordinaire, who struggles to deserve her perfect boyfriend.  She longs to let loose, and be a little wild, and Beau is the perfect one to show her how.

 

Such a good book!  I was pleasantly surprised, as I wasn't really expecting much out of it.  Why?  I'll be honest.  The cover.  Yes, I know, judging books by their cover and all that. 

No, not the current cover.  The old one with the lollipop lips.  Anyways, like I said it was my first real taste of steamier YA.  And boy was it good!  Their were some smexy scenes without getting too descriptive.  I would recommend this one for those that are used to YA and want a taste of what the New Adult category is like.

So far I'm liking Flat Out Love and I'm excited to see the supposed "knock-you-to-your-kness" romance come to fruition.  I'm only about 25% into it, and hopefully I'll be able to finish it by the end of the weekend.
