Top Ten Tuesday

A fun list meme hosted over at The Broke and the Bookish.

Top Ten Book Cover Trends I like/Dislike

LIKE

1.)  Bright colors! - Because colors are fun!
2.)  Unfocused images - There is something that screams "mysterious" about these to me.
3.) Simplicity - Simple really IS better.
4.)  Distressed pages - You know the pages where the edges are all chewed on looking.
5.)  Colored hardbacks under the dust jacket - I've got to admit that I've bought books based what color the actual book is.

DISLIKE

1.)  Kissing couples - I can't read these in public unless they are e-books.
2.)  Sci-fi/Fantasy covers - I've just honestly never liked these.
3.)  Covers that have nothing to do with the content of the book - How misleading!
4.)  Stock images - I understand that a lot of self published authors have to do this, but I've seen a lot of big name authors with stock image covers as well.
5.)  Movie covers - Necessary for more revenue but they are almost never as good as the originals!

Well, Hello There!

It's been a while hasn't it?  Almost a year has past since I posted that I had some issues with my job and what not.  I'm happy to say that I DID manage to get out of the place I was working before everything turned to poo.  I am back in retail for the time being.

Two other big things have happened since I posted last.  The first, a reading slump.  I didn't read anything for ALMOST A YEAR! I know, WHOA!  But I had good reason you guys, I promise.  It's the second big thing.  At the end of August, right when I accepted my new job, I found out I was pregnant.  It came as a huge shock and the timing was horrible.  I was too busy with morning sickness, fatigue, working, and whatnot to read.  Now we have a beautiful 5 week old little guy AND a crazy 7 year old boy.  I am also going back to work next week.

Please be prepared that this blog may not be regular all the time, but I will try to schedule posts in advance.  There also may not be many reviews until I get back into the swing of reading.

Life Update and Where the Hell I've Been

You may have noticed I haven't posted in almost 2 months.  Why?  Well, to be quite frank a lot of shit is going down at my work and I'm trying to get the hell out of dodge.  I had a promising job lined up at my old place of employment, which them seemed to slip right through my fingers before my very eyes, with no reasoning whatsoever.  SO, back to the job hunt it was.  I applied everywhere that was hiring for retail management, as that is what I have the most experience in and I want to get out of restaurant management completely.  So far, I haven't heard anything back from any of the place I applied, other than Best Buy.  They decided "to not continue forward with my application at this time."  Blah, blah, blah.

So yes, I have been a little preoccupied and not concerned with blogging lately.  I also had a reading slump a few weeks ago, so that didn't help.  Hopefully, things will get better.  I hope and I'm going to try to keep this blog up to date, but if things are sporadic, you'll know why.  And must I also remind everyone that school is going to start shortly?  Arghhh.  I've got to get on the ball with getting supplies and school clothes for my son.  One more thing to slow me down!

This week's question:

Activity: Spine Poetry. Create a line of poetry with your book spines (take a picture). Not feeling creative? Tell us about your favorite poem.

I gotta be honest here.  I hate poetry.  Like really, REALLY, R-E-A-L-L-Y hate it.  Yes, I know songs are poetry and yada, yada, yada.  Not the same.  So there's my take on it.  I have seen some really crative poems come out of this activity, but I just can't do it.  Sorry!  I'm not trying to be a Debbie Downer, I promise!!

Swoon Thursday

From the book you’re currently reading, or one you just finished, tell us what made you SWOON. What got your heart pounding, your skin tingling, and your stomach fluttering.  Hosted by YA Bound.

I haven't ran in to a swoon worthy moment in my current book, so I present you with one from one of my favorite leading males, Reid Alexander.

"When you tell me to be good, it makes me want to be good,' I say, hearing the undisguised desire in my voice. I run my fingers through the hair at her temples, taking her face between my palms, and she doesn't move. 'It also makes me want to be very, very bad.”

Review - Stealing Harper by Molly McAdams

Summary:

Chase Grayson has never been interested in having a relationship that lasts longer than it takes for him and his date to get dressed again. But then he stumbles into a gray-eyed girl whose innocence pours off her, and everything changes. From the minute Harper opens her mouth to let him know just how much he disgusts her, he's hooked.

But a princess deserves a Prince Charming who can make her dreams come true. Not a guy who can turn her life into a nightmare.

All good intentions go out the window when Harper starts to fall for the guy Chase has come to view as a brother. He wanted to protect her by keeper her away, but he can't stand to see her with anyone else, and he'll do anything to make her his. But when it comes down to Harper choosing between the two, will Chase have the strength to step back from the girl who has become his whole world if it means she's happy?

Lines will be crossed. Friendships will be put to the test. And hearts will be shattered.

Review:

OK, I've discovered that the companion books told from the male love interest's POV are just not my thing.  It wasn't that this book was bad in any way.  I actually really enjoyed it.  But there is just SOMETHING missing for me.  I felt that was about Walking Disaster by Jamie McGuire and I feel that way about this one too.  Maybe it's because I like the façade of a good asshole, bad-ass guy and when I read the story from their POV, they become kind of soft to me?
Overall, a pretty decent read.  It was nice too see the world as Chase viewed it instead of the stupid wench by the name of Harper, even if it did make him seem less of a bad-ass.  If you enjoyed Taking Chances, I would recommend you pick this up.  If not, don't.  It won't bring you any joy, because Harper's still in it.

3.5 out 5 stars!
